awesome
also HOW did you get frontpaged

DrakeXtor responds:

I have no idea lol

Hey, just a suggestion: you might want to normalize the audio of your tracks after exporting, you can tell how the audio is quiet just by how that waveform looks. Aside from that, it's a really nice sounding song!

adaMills responds:

Thanks for the suggestion! That is one area I have a lot of work to do in.

Oh yeah I remember watching that anime! I like this, I think you could've added a new section with a different chord progression to give some variation.

Ed3 responds:

I was thinking about that, but once I hit that 3 min mark I was like "Eh it's long enough" lol.

The transitions into different sections are very sudden, it sounds like 4 different songs stitched into one.

CasterBerry responds:

Thanks for the feedback.

I like this one, the structure is really nice and it doesn't sound too repetitive. Mixing is alright, but I don't really like that panned kick drum beat at 0:55, I think it's usually a bad idea to do that. Last thing is more of a suggestion, I think it could do with more melodies, played by a chiptune lead, I think that would be really cool.

ArtificialIceCream responds:

Hey! Thank you! I'm much more fond of this one too. As I'm going through these songs again, I do notice that LMMS tends to do that with some patterns and instruments. I may have to pan it the other way to align it more with the other drum tracks.
As for your suggestion, I do agree that it could use a stronger and brighter lead along with other songs I've done. The soft wash I tend to go for on lead does tend to muddy things if there's a lot going on. If you have any suggested artists that show some examples of it I'm totally down to hear em. :)

Song sounds good overall, it's the kinda vibe I like, but that transition from 1:00 to the next section sounds weird, I don't really like how everything stops suddenly as if the song were ending. The actual ending of the song sounds abrupt.
Drums sound good, snare sounds kinda boomy too me, but the kick is really good.
I like the chords, they're interesting, but they sound kinda off in pair with the melody sometimes, nothing too bad, though.
Melodies are okay but at 0:30 it sounds just random. The melody at 01:27 is the catchiest imo, I think you could've developed it more and used it more.
At last, the bass is not very audible and is mostly uninteresting to listen. I think a slap-bass, or just a more funky sounding bass could sound better here, but that's up to what you're going for.

ArtificialIceCream responds:

Thanks a ton for the feedback! I agree with all of it if I'm being honest. I think my overall problem is mixing. I feel that once I'm able to get that down better I could probably start to pick out a lot of the smaller problems that you noticed too.

Really good melodies, I don't like those muffled vocals though, they sound really weird and unfitting for this song in my opinion.
By the way, you don't need to re-upload the song if you have made changes to it, you can just replace the file by editing it, I'll try to remind myself to return later if you make any changes.
Update: I still don't like the vocals, maybe it's just me. The one at the beginning sounds okay, but that vocal at the end serves no purpose and just sounds weird really.

d-arias responds:

I just posted another version! I have removed the sidechain, I have tried to improve the note envelopes and I have not used the vocals as much as before.

Sounds really cool! Careful with the distortion though, I'm assuming you did it on purpose, but too much of it can just sound bad and harmful to the ears.
I would also suggest you add more elements to the song like some cymbals maybe, there's not too much going on right now, but maybe that comes in a later section of the song? Can't really tell, right now this sounds quite unfinished.

Eenzayne responds:

Thank you for your feedback! I recorded this song as a part of a self-imposed songwriting challenge, where I had to record a track within a day, so it's more like me catching an idea than me executing the idea properly. I totally agree with your points though. Thank you <3

Sounds really awesome, I like the changes you did to the melodies and chords, especially at 1:15. I just think the vocal samples are a little bit too much here and I don't really like that... wet sounding clap.

moonmistt responds:

thanks! the vocal samples may be a bit too much since i was trying to get the same kind of vibe as sonic cd's stardust speedway, and now that you point out the clap it does sound a bit too wet. thanks for the feedback! :^)

Despite the limitations, you managed to make a really interesting and catchy tune. Sounds like tracker music. It would've been really cool if you simulated delay/reverb by using duplicated channels, it's a common thing in chiptune music, but idk if that would have fit into the limitations.

Stargame responds:

Lol the polyphony limit effectively destroyed the ability to do that except for particularly bare segments of music, so it seemed a waste to even try in that case. I was not in the mood to plan and syncopate 10 different sounds into an 8 sound space while making this xD

Thank you for the review, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

just a gal making some music as hobby, mostly electronic video game music
